Can we disagree well over the Biblical canon? - The Whole Church Podcast

Episode 214

Can we disagree well over the Biblical canon?

Fr Jonathan Resmini joins us once more, this time to discuss the controversies around which books we include in the Biblical canon! Joshua Noel and TJ (Tiberius Juan) Blackwell ask Fr Jonathan about the history of how the canon of Scripture came to be, what differences there are in Catholic / Protestant / Orthodox Bibles, and what other books are important to the foundations of our faiths and traditions.

What is the biblical canon? What books are in the biblical canon? What is the biblical canon set? How is biblical canon decided? What is the largest biblical canon? Why was the Book of Enoch removed from the Bible? What books were removed from the canon Bible? What are 7 deuterocanonical books? What is the difference between Apocrypha and deuterocanonical? What are the 7 extra books in the Catholic Bible, and what are the 10 extra in the Orthodox Church? Why was the book of Maccabees removed from the protestant Bible? SHould Malachi be the end of the Old Testament?

In this episode, we will:

  • Explore the history of the canon of Christian Scriptures
  • Discuss the importance of the canon of the Bible
  • Examine the differences of the Orthodox, Catholic, and Protestant Bibles
  • Deconstruct the reasons behind the books we call Scripture
  • Ask how unity may be possible when we don't fully agree on our own sacred text

Offering Plate

We may not be huge fans of the pressure that goes along with a literal offering plate, but we do hope you will consider giving to our ministry so we can afford to continue our work to educate and unite the Church!
We haven’t had any Tips yet :( Maybe you could be the first!
